Vancouver, BC - June 18, 2007. Fibre Net Communications is using TeraSpan's Vertical Inlaid Fibre System to deploy an 8km fibre optic network along Bermuda's Middle Road Highway and a 4.5 km underwater deployment. The network, which is currently in the final stages of completion, covers a significant portion of the small tropical island.
According to Fibre Net president Stephen Vanderwaak, the highway project was made viable by TeraSpan's versatile system, which eliminated the need for extensive trenching: "The deployment would not have gone ahead utilizing the traditional method. We would have had to resurface half the roadway, which would have put us over budget. The TeraSpan deployment method made this project possible."
In addition to high costs, traditional trenching deployment methods can consume a prohibitive amount of time. Fibre Net required an alternative solution, which they found in TeraSpan's VIF System. Regulatory constraints restricted fibre deployment in Bermuda to the hours of 9:30am to 2pm. Utilizing TeraSpan's VIF System, Fibre Net deployed an impressive 1200 feet of fibre per day. Increasing productivity was of the utmost importance, and Mr. Vanderwaak maintains that TeraSpan's advanced system played an integral role in helping Fibre Net reach its goals.
